Quilt Projects

So I quilt- and my quilts aren't old lady quilts that people think about when they hear quilting. My momma taught me how to quilt and sponsers my fabric stash and our quilting classes! Her quilts always turn out better than mine, which is mainly due to that fact that she is good with details and precision whereas I tend to feel that noone will notice if the seams don't exactly match up, etc...

I FINALLY finished this quilt that I started many years ago during a class Mom and I took at Zoe's Trunk. I believe it was queen size.

This is my current project - a baby quilt for Matt and Emily's little girl. I think it turned out pretty well but have to get the border and everything finished up still. Hopefully she will get it before she is five...

huh... started a blog

So I was playing around on Katrina's blog and inadvertantly signed up with this blogger page so I figured I should start one as well. I do art sometimes and now you too can see the "art" I keep on my computer or in my storage closet downstairs before I finally send it to whoever it was created for (lucky you). Should be fun. Below is a picture of my daddy and I at Chief Shakes Lodge in Wrangell. He was nice (and patient) enough to go shooting with me while I home in May. Took tons of pictures of the totums since I realized that although I lived there for more than 15 full years and go there every year- I actually never took pictures of the unique surroundings that we grew up in.

These are two of the totums there- I used to remember each of the stories for each totum but there are lost somewhere in the vast expanses of my mind... add it to the list of things to read up about someday.

I thought it was really interesting that the eagle was sprouting hair- probably from seeds in bird poop - but it seemed like an instance of the cycle of life. Not the best photo- but I like it.

I really do like this picture of the stoic man sitting on top of the bear (I do remember some of the symbols) - it might even get printed and put on the wall. It is my major peeve about digital cameras that althought it is convininet to have files rather than stacks of pictures - the photos rarely make it off the computer. Hoping to change this. I really need to buy one of those damn digital picture frames but can't bring myself to spring for one. Sooner or later will have to fix this.

I find totum poles to be really interesting. They tell a story or show the progression and history of a family- this was less confusing back then - my totum would be odd and forked and probably impossible for others to decipher :P there would definitely be some possums in there!

These are some water lilies from Tom's Lake(?) I thought they turned out okay. Apparently I need to figure out how to use this blog still- can 't reposition the picts to be next to eachother etc. oh well.
